African Ladies

Description: A vibrant African class project. What you need:  A4 white paper A3 hard paper (or bigger) Acrylic paint in a variety of colors including light green, red and black Paint brushes Palette Scissors Glue What to do: Paint various patterns on A4 white paper. Once dry, cut the paper into strips/dress shapes. Paint an A3 hard paper completely light green or completely red. Once dry, stick the dresses onto your painted A3. (I have my students keep one of their own patterened dresses, and swap the rest with other students.) Use black paint to make the head, arms and feet of your African ladies. Helpful Tip: If you use a bigger paper, you can leave enough space to make a patterned frame using wax crayons later.

Safari Sunset

Description: A beautiful African sunset painting using acrylic paints. What you need: Yellow Acrylic Paint Orange Acrylic Paint Red Acrylic Paint  Black Acrylic Paint A large brush (No. 18 round would be just fine) Water Bowls for paint or a palette A3 hard paper or a canvas (You can use any size) An animal stencil  Table protectors (Cloth, newspaper) Apron What to do: Cover your work space using newspaper or an old table cloth. Put on your apron. Start by painting the bottom half of your paper (landscape orientation) using yellow paint. (You can paint a curved shape to indicate the sun, if you prefer). Wash your brush. Paint the next quarter of your page with orange, blending it where it meets the yellow paint. Next, paint the top quarter of your paper red, blending it with the orange.  Let this dry completely. If need be, give it a second coat.  Let this dry completely. Using undiluted black paint, paint about 3-6cm (1-2 inches) from the b
